()Americans are planning to travel to the open road this summer to spend time with their loved ones and make new friends. A recent survey by the American Automobile Association found that nearly two-thirds (or more) of American families plan to travel this summer. Just over half of them will do it by car. Car trips are more popular because of the lower gas prices. However, auto travelers today are more conscious of the effects of their activities on our environment.
7-Eleven and other companies are pioneering innovative solutions that help consumers reduce the negative effects of car travel. This gives them the chance to make an impact.
7-Eleven uses a program called RENEW to calculate tailpipe carbon emissions. Then, 7-Eleven offsets those emissions by local and global carbon reduction programs, including tree plantings and reforestation.
“As a brand 7-Eleven has committed to supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically goal no. 7 and no. 11. These goals center around providing more sustainable energy for consumers and giving back to our local communities. That’s why we introduced the 7-Eleven RENEW program and why it is so important,”Jason Murray, 7-11 Vice President of Operations for Pacific Northwest, says: “We’ve made sustainability an easy option for our customers. By simply choosing to pump at a 7-Eleven RENEW location, drivers are proactively reducing their carbon impact by up to 30 percent.”
RENEW was launched in 2017 and has now offset more than 150,000,000 gallons fuel. This is equivalent to supplying electricity to more than 5.2million homes per day.
“What 7-Eleven is doing is an example of a community-minded business trying to help solve a very difficult problem,”Sharon, a 7 Eleven customer and Tracy, California teacher, said,
7-Eleven RENEW supports projects in collaboration and community engagement. 7-Eleven is proud to partner with the Arbor Day Foundation by offering the Plant it Forward promotion. It can be found at 658 locations. 7-Eleven encourages tree planting through Plant it Forward and invites community members and customers to dedicate trees to their friends and family.
“We expect to see RENEW grow significantly this year. We want to ensure customers know that when they pull into a 7-Eleven RENEW location to pump their fuel, they are doing more than just pumping fuel. They are making a difference,”Murray. “We are proud of the RENEW program and the customers who participate because we are working together to save our environment locally and globally.”
