What is it like to be the greatest female vocalist since Janis Jonplin? It might seem that vocal training is the only way to achieve a voice of this caliber. Emily Armstrong, the lead vocalist of the rock group Dead Sara, is an exception.

Armstrong didn’t take voice lessons. Siouxsie Medley (Dead Sara’s lead guitarist) took her raw rock ‘n’ roll talent to make a band with it. They created Pocket Kid Records.

Armstrong’s voice is now stacked alongside Stevie Wonder, Melissa Etheridge, and yes, Janis Joplin.

Armstrong, some believe, is the driving force behind L.A.’s group. As written in O.C. Weekly, “There are a lot of reasons to check out Dead Sara; blazing, impassioned classic rock; punk/indie jams; catchy guitar melodies; songs about not backing down. But there’s a more pressing reason than all that: singer Emily Armstrong’s loud, intrepid voice.”

Grace Slick, Jefferson Airplane’s pilot, complimented Armstrong and said that she admires Armstrong. “strong, urgent sound.”

Music critics and experts love to wax poetically about emerging artists and bands. Dead Sara’s fans will have to decide what Armstrong and her vocals sound like on their debut album. This is expected to drop in April.

Is she really the one? best female vocalistJanis Joplin since? You’ll be the judge. The singles of many members are getting radio airplay, including “We Are What You Say” “Weatherman.”Armstrong’s vocal dexterity is even heard on YouTube.
