American homes are becoming more polluted and contaminated. Studies have shown that poor indoor air quality is linked to an increase in allergy and asthma symptoms as well as a host of other health problems, such heart disease, stroke, and blood clots.

Research is showing that poor indoor air quality can lead to or contribute to many symptoms and medical problems. Poor indoor air quality can be especially dangerous for people with asthma or chronic obstructive lung disease (COPD), as well as those who have allergies. Medical literature also shows that even healthy individuals are affected.

A new study by scientists from Sweden and Denmark, published in American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, has shown that poor indoor air can adversely impact blood vessel performance and lead to cardiovascular disease.

Aprilaire, a manufacturer in indoor air quality products is encouraging consumers across the country to think about whole-home air cleaners when managing their indoor environments.

Although the medical community recognizes the importance of clean air in the house, many consumers are disappointed by the choices available at their local home improvement stores, where portable, do it yourself air cleaning units can be purchased.

“We know through research that most people buy portable air cleaners to help alleviate some sort of respiratory issue. This cannot be accomplished with one portable air cleaner for an entire home,”John Frank is Aprilaire’s product manager. “In fact, most homes require four or five portable units or more to clean the air throughout the entire home and still don’t do as good a job,”Frank. “A whole-home air cleaning solution is ideal for families who want to ensure healthy, clean air in every room and get the best value for their dollar.”

Air cleaners installed in whole-home homes permanently trap harmful airborne pollutants that can worsen health, allergies and asthma symptoms. According to industry standards, the Aprilaire 5000 achieved a 99 percent efficiency in capturing airborne particles. The unit captures and kills virtually all contaminants including those that most affect personal health—viruses, bacteria, spores and allergens 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
