Women’s History Month celebrates the progress made in women’s rights. leadership rolesWithin the companies that we work.

This is a far different story than in the 1970s when women were restricted to specialized fields and made significantly less than men. Although there are still some barriers to equal earning, we have full control over the areas we want to develop professionally.

It is important to find the right company for you. If your child gets sick, will they let you work from home? What if you don’t want to take off on President’s Day — is paid time off a general pool, or is it divided into vacation/sick/holiday time?

A company that provides support and materials to women leaders is the one that can help you reach your leadership goals.

Chair of the TD Women in Leadership initiative, I am a TD Bank employee. Our goal to increase women’s representation at top levels and provide more opportunities for women in leadership is my goal. For example, we offer a fantastic mentoring program for women in the TD Bank network. We plan to increase it this year by offering one-on-one mentoring to high-potential females.

A company that encourages women’s growth will not only help you rise to the top, but also provide professional and personal development.

While vacation time and a good healthcare plan are important, benefits that allow you to have a work-life balance can also be a great benefit.

Life happens. Children bring home stomach viruses that can destroy the house. Ask potential employers about their work-from-home policies.

Consider creating a list of what you are looking for in your next job and what you would like from your next move before you start your search for a job.
