Samantha White, like many Americans during these difficult times, had to give up her health insurance coverage because her premiums for medical insurance were too high. White, a North Carolina resident, was also struck by illness.
Nancy Bostick, White’s sister, offered to help her sister with bills, food, and medication. Bostick’s income was insufficient to pay all White’s expenses so Bostick began looking for programs that could reduce costs.
“We were lucky enough to get on a lot of charity programs with the hospitals and doctor offices,”Bostick. “Even with that, we still paid about $1,000 per month for her prescriptions.”
White’s medication was not available in generic form so the sisters had to search for discounts on brand-name prescriptions. Bostick works in Scotland County, N.C. and discovered a free prescription discount program called the National Association of Counties Prescription Discount Card Program. She quickly picked up a card to give her sister.
“I cannot tell you how much money we saved using the NACo Prescription Discount Card, but it was tremendous savings,”Bostick stated. “I firmly support the card and urge anyone who needs it to get the card.”
NACo Prescription Discount Card Program is offered by its partner CVS Caremark to counties that belong to NACo. This program provides a member benefit program that is free for all members of the organization. It represents the interests and needs of the United States’ county governments.
The NACo Prescription Discount Card has no application process and does not require payment. To use the program, residents of counties do not need to meet any income or age requirements. The average savings of the cards is 22 percent on full retail price of prescription drugs. They can also be used whenever a prescription that is not covered by insurance is not available.
The card is honored by a national network of over 60,000 retail pharmacies.
“My sister had a good job but not one with health insurance benefits,”Bostick said. “All her money went to prescriptions and health premiums. This card is one of the things that I am grateful that came along.”
