* When is the annual enrollment period to choose a Medicare plan for 2019?

The Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug Plan annual election period runs from October 15 through December 7, 2018. Coverage that begins Jan. 1, 2019 will be available for those who have coverage.

* How do I find out if my doctors, hospitals and specialists are in my Medicare Advantage provider network?

The majority of Medicare Advantage plans have easy-to-use online tools that allow you to find hospitals and doctors within your plan’s network. You can also consult a licensed agent to find out if a doctor or hospital accepts a plan.

* If I select a Medicare plan for the coming year, and then find that I don’t like it, can I drop it and choose another plan?

With few exceptions, the plan you choose by December 7th will be your Medicare plan throughout 2019. It is wise to thoroughly research all options. If you sign up for a Medicare Advantage plan for 2019, and then find that it’s not the right fit, between Jan. 1 and March 31, there will be an Open Enrollment Period during which you can switch from a Medicare Advantage or a Medicare Advantage-Prescription Drug Plan to another Medicare Advantage plan with or without prescription drug coverage. You can also choose Original Medicare with or sans a standalone Prescription Drug Plan.
