Let’s face facts. Many people believe that getting older is less about chasing the almighty dollars and more about sharing special moments with family and friends.
AARP has released new research that shows many baby boomers choose to travel rather than host a party or buy or receive jewelry.
“Travel is the number-one aspirational activity for the boomer generation,” says Sami Hassanyeh, AARP’s chief digital officer, “We are seeing not just AARP members but also non-members who seem to prefer investing in a celebration vacation for their life’s special moments.”
The U.S. has 76 million boomers. AARP (travel.aarp.org), which aims at helping this generation plan their vacations, takes away what can be stressful. Travelers can now visit AARP’s website for expert advice on activities, places to see, travel tips, entertainment options, and how to keep your budget within reach.
Are you not up for a long stay away? How about a weekend getaway instead? The non-profit’s new website now features a section with itineraries curated from Fodor’s Travel. The collection includes suggestions for local escapes within three hours of home. This includes where to shop, eat, and stay from places like Denver, Washington D.C. and other locations nationwide.
The website also includes tools and features that will help you plan, such as:
* Questions designed to deliver ideas and recommendations for destinations.
* A personal page that allows you to save and organize trip ideas, itineraries and related articles.
* Travel tips and online booking tools for hotels and rental cars through Expedia and Liberty Travel.
