Richard Petty is a seven-time NASCAR champion. He has seen many races over his career. But, nothing could have prepared him for what he would see. Nearly hundreds turned out to witness the spectacle. Undy 5000Track Walk in Support of the Colon Cancer Alliance
“Unfortunately, colon cancer is the number-two cancer killer in this country,”Petty is also known as simply “The King.” “We wanted everyone to come out to the track to support the Colon Cancer Alliance.”
They did! Nearly $20,000 were raised at the Pocono Raceway event that followed the Pocono 200 ARCA Race in Long Pond (Penn.) on Saturday, Juni 8.
“The Undy 5000 aims to motivate people to get screened and to bring together local communities to celebrate colon cancer survivors and their families,”Jasmine Greenamyer is the CEO of CCA. “With such great turnout for the Undy 5000, we’re able to raise money for the CCA’s prevention, research and patient support services and help local organizations fund colon cancer programs.”
Sensitivity to colon cancer treatment is crucial. Approximately 90 percent of colon cancer cases can be prevented by screening. Colon cancer can be detected early and is easily treated. The CCA recommends that you get a screening test to check for colon cancer if you are 50 years old or older.
The Undy 5000 5K, 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk was launched by the CCA in 2008. It has raised over $4.3 million for local colon cancer screening efforts as well as the CCA’s patient support programs. Find an Undy 5000 Walk/Run near you and tell your friends and family that screening saves lives.
