()The holiday season is an ideal time to connect with your loved ones. For many adult children, however, this time is also a time when they might notice changes in the health or behavior of their parents that could signal the need for help at home. Family members are increasingly concerned about senior care services and this leads to more inquiries each year.

According to Home Instead Senior care, January is the month with the highest number of senior care inquiries. The company experienced a 34% increase in service calls nationwide from December 2017 to January 2018, compared with 2017.

Family members may have noticed some changes in their behavior when visiting family members over the holidays.

* Mood and Symptoms of Depression. Are you noticing a shift in the behavior of your loved one? Are they more attached or emotional?

* Personal Hygiene. Changes in appearance can be a sign that you need assistance. They could include having unkempt hair or body odor, as well as wearing the same clothes for multiple day.

* Driving Skills. Driving skills may be deteriorating if there are signs such as scratches, dents and speeding tickets on senior citizens’ cars.

* Household Changes. Are you or your loved one having trouble paying the bills, filling prescriptions, or doing housework? Untidiness in the home could be due to a person’s over-complicated tasks.

* Eating Habits. Do you feel like your loved one has nothing in their refrigerator? Are there any rotten or expired foods in your loved one’s refrigerator? These could be signs that your relative is losing interest in cooking or unable to go to the grocery store.

Home Instead Senior Care franchises have begun to hire CAREGivers to support older adults and provide companionship and support. This practice aligns with national employment trends.
