Pack smartly. The majority of Americans will know that you should bring several pairs of shoes to your trip. It is important to choose the right type shoe for the activities that you are participating in. Consider your destination’s climate. While you may need winter boots if you travel to Chicago in December or San Diego in January, Crocs will be more comfortable for your feet. Do not bring new shoes that were never worn.
Wear the appropriate footwear on planes. Long periods of sitting can cause stiffness and reduced circulation. This can lead to soreness and swelling. Elastic support stockings can reduce swelling in the feet and legs. Avoid tight socks around your ankle as this can restrict blood flow. You can loosen the shoelaces or bring slippers for your flight. Soak your feet in Epsom salt if they become sore.
– Follow the pilot’s instructions and move about the cabin. Walking for a few minutes each hour can reduce leg swelling and cramps. To increase blood flow, you can also flex your toes at the ankles while seated.
– Pamper your feet. You don’t have to neglect your feet just because you are traveling. Elevate your feet after a long day of walking to give them some rest. If you have the chance, soak your feet for a while in warm water. Dry them well and then apply a thick lotion/foot cream. It will also help to reduce stress while traveling.
