YouTube’s Internet debut in 2005 was a surprise. No one could have imagined the impact it would have on musicians and record labels.
Fast forward to today, where wannabe recording musicians are using the dot.com site for their music broadcasting to the world and getting noticed by record companies.
Abie Flinstone, 19, a Euro dancer from Lommel in Belgium, is an example of this. She has been compared with Eminem, and has used YouTube to her advantage.
Flinstone has been signed by New York-based companies for her marketing skills and efforts. Big Jake Music, an independent record label that is part of Seven Arts Music. Seven Arts Entertainment, Seven’s parent company, recently announced that Flinstone’s single will be promoted by Seven Arts Entertainment. “Get Outta My Way,”Kaliq Scott’s song, which she wrote in her bedroom, is featured. The song reached no. The song reached no. 2 on Belgium’s Dance Charts and will be available in the U.S. later this month.
Flinstone isn’t the only up-and-coming artist to have enjoyed virtual success on YouTube. Natassia Zolot or Kreayshawn, a 22 year-old white rapper hailing from East Oakland, Calif., is another.
Kreayshawn’s now-famous performance last year was recorded by Kreayshawn “Gucci Gucci,”It was a catchy and touching tribute to independence from designer labels. She then premiered the video via YouTube. It was an overnight success, with over 11 million hits by August 2011. She has since landed a seven-figure recording deal and doesn’t seem to be slowing down. It’s not bad for a girl that admits she didn’t know she was. “still going to be struggling to pay rent.”
“I believe YouTube is changing everything for music artists,”Jake Shapiro is the founder of Big Jake Music.
“Because of YouTube, small, independent record labels are now able to choose from the best of the best,”He concluded.
Flinstone, with the support of Big Jake Music is in good company.
