Military families can find it difficult to return to school online, in person, or in combination.
According to the National Retail Federation in 2019, American families spent about $700 per child on school supplies during the school year. Combining backpacks with clothes, notebooks and lunchboxes can add up. Schools may also ask parents for $100 per family to help pay for school supplies. Many military families struggle to buy school supplies, not to mention other household and child-care expenses.
Operation Homefront, an organization national that has been supporting stable, strong military families since 2002 has taken on the challenge to get military children ready for school through its Back-to-School Brigade program. This program was launched in 2008.
Hunt Heroes Foundation (HHF), an organization that was founded by Hunt Military Communities, the largest military housing owner in the country, announced this year its support for Operation Homefront’s Back-to-School Brigade and Hunt Heroes Foundation (HHF). HHF will send 1,850 backpacks with school supplies to HMC areas in the United States ahead of the 2020 school year.
“Operation Homefront is proud that Hunt Military Communities is helping bring our Back-to-School Brigade program to military families in their communities,”Robin Miller, Senior Director of Operation Homefront.
“With their support, we are able to distribute backpacks filled with school supplies to those who have given so much on behalf of all Americans and ensure that their children have the tools for a successful start to the school year,” Ms. Miller emphasizes.
The event will help alleviate some of those financial burdens that back-to-school can cause for military families. The backpacks are made to suit all ages, grades, and abilities.
“We are honored to partner with Operation Homefront on an initiative that will support military families during this uniquely challenging back-to-school season,”John Ehle is president of Hunt Military Communities.
“It is our goal to make the process as seamless as possible for parents, and make sure that their children are prepared to start the new school year, whether virtually or in-person.”
The Back-to-School Brigade for this year will adapt to comply to COVID-19 guidelines. This includes features like a drive-through format.
