Todd and Sonja Burpo lived a horrible life in March 2003. Colton, then four years old, had suffered a ruptured appendix, and was now facing a potentially fatal infection. The Burpos were told by doctors that surgery was the only option for Colton.
Colton survived the operation with a narrow margin. Although his survival was miraculous, it was not as remarkable as the journey he underwent while doctors tried to save his life. While Colton was in surgery, Colton’s consciousness was elevated to Heaven.
Colton shared that angels sang to him in Heaven months after his surgery. He described his experience in great detail. He had spoken with the archangels Gabriel, and Michael. He had seen God on the throne.
The Burpos initially were skeptical. Colton began to describe things that he didn’t know about.
Colton accurately described the actions of his parents while he was in hospital. He spoke about his grandfather who had passed away 30 years before. He shared that he had met his grandfather, who had died 30 years earlier. However, his parents had not told Colton the details of their son’s birth.
Todd Burpo is a co-author of a book. “Heaven is for Real: A Little Boy’s Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back,”He was amazed when his son’s story aligned with scripture. Colton cited several images from the Book of Revelation, as an example.
Colton, now 11 years old, is a happy sixth-grader who continues to entertain his family with the things he has recalled from his otherworldly experience. As he grows older and learns to express his experiences better, his story has become richer and more complex.
“We have all accepted the truth of Colton’s witness,”Todd. “As we read the Bible and hear Colton say over and over again, ‘yeah, that’s the way it is,’ [it] affects us all.”
