Sue Davis is active and as energetic as any teenager. It’s hard to believe that she’s a baby-boomer.
“Yesterday I took the Palm Springs tram up to the top of Mount San Jacinto and hiked ten miles to Idyllwild,” Davis said. “Today I got up and played three sets of tennis, and now I’m preparing for a dinner party.”
Davis lives in Trilogy At La Quinta, an active adult community by Shea Homes near Palm Springs, Calif. Shea Homes recently received a J.D. Power and Associates won the award for highest customer satisfaction in large active adult communities. They believe that this is one way to succeed in soft real estate markets.
The United States has approximately 78 million baby-boomers. Each day, 11,000 baby boomers turn 50. They collectively generate almost $2 trillion annually in income. According to an ABCNews.com article, boomers are living longer than their parents. They are also healthier and more educated. Boomers can reinvent themselves and follow their passions thanks to the increasing longevity.
These changes are being taken into consideration by home builders. Yoga and hiking have replaced bingo and shuffleboard. Trilogy at Central Coast activities include pilates (pilates, yoga, biking), wine tasting, tennis and gourmet cuisine. It is located in San Luis Obispo.
