Make Father’s Day special by creating some creative ideas for Dad.

These are the ideas of the National Watermelon Promotion Boardwww.watermelon.orgThese (and other) will be a huge hit. To honor his love of outdoor activities, we made a basket that resembled a golf ball. It was made from watermelon rind and filled with watermelon balls. For Dad’s special day, there will be a savory chicken wings glaze to snack on.

The white under the rind can be exposed by using a kitchen knife. Cut not too deeply or the red flesh will be exposed. You want to make the ball look whiter than a golf ball.

It can be carved with a spoon. You can save the watermelon pieces for melon balls. Add melon balls to the tray and then decorate.

Choose the Perfect Watermelon

1. Take a look at the watermelon. A firm, symmetrical watermelon should be free from any cuts, bruises, or dents.

2. It can be lifted up. It should be a large watermelon. Watermelon weight should be heavy considering that it is 92 percent water.

3. Turn it over. The underside should be a creamy yellow spot where it rested on the ground, and was sun-ripened.
