– Olympic track and field stars, Ashton Eaton and his wife, Brianne Theisen-Eaton, have joined The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training as National Ambassadors.
This iconic endurance sport training program will be supported by the power couple in their quest to cure blood cancers.
The Eatons, fresh off their gold-winning Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, announced their retirement in January and are now looking for their next challenge. Their entire professional career they competed on different teams: Ashton for the United States and Brianne for Canada. But now, the Eatons will be joining Team In Training, (TNT), as they continue to compete for the same team.
LLS was the first to develop the concept of endurance sports training for charity, with the 1988 NYC Marathon. Team In Training has raised over $1.5 Billion for research and patient support. It has trained over 650,000 people. LLS has also invested more than $1 Billion in research to advance groundbreaking cancer treatments.
The Eatons will raise awareness about Team In Training’s new offerings. Team In Training now offers more than just marathons. It also has high-profile cycling, hiking, and climbing events. This includes teams that are training to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. The mainstay of the program, community support, camaraderie and coaching are all available at all events. A new training app is also available to help teammates get from start to finish.
The Eatons will raise awareness about Team In Training’s 30th Anniversary by raising awareness of the work LLS does in finding cancer cures through cutting-edge research. Funded partly through Team In Training,
Ashton Eaton was a Decathlon gold medalist two times. “World’s Greatest Athlete,”Says “Team In Training is the perfect fit for Brianne and me. Our careers have been about chasing personal goals that might seem impossible, while representing something bigger than ourselves. We couldn’t be prouder to come on board.”
Brianne Eaton, who was a bronze medalist for the Heptathlon added, “We strive to provide inspiration and encouragement to Team In Training teammates and coaches, to promote personal mastery while raising funds for LLS’s mission — to find cures and ensure access to treatments for blood cancer patients.”
“Ashton and Brianne are set to start energizing Team In Training teammates across the country and the world,”Dr. Louis J. DeGennaro is the CEO of LLS. “Their involvement will help us create significant awareness for LLS as we raise much-needed funds for research and patient support to make someday today for blood cancer patients.”
