Savory Onion & Apple Tart
Yield: 16 appetizers
2 tablespoons olive oils
6 medium-sized onions, thinly chopped (about 9 cups).
2 medium-sized red apple cores, thinly sliced (3 cups), and divided
1 can (13 ounces) of refrigerated pizza dough (such like Pillsbury).
1/2 cup goat cheese or Feta cheese crumbled
2 tablespoons chopped fresh or 2 teaspoons dried thyme
Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet on medium-low heat. Mix together the onions and half the apples. Cook for approximately 25 minutes, stirring occasionally. “melt”Spreadable
In the meantime, spray nonstick spray onto a baking sheet. Make a rectangle out of the dough and place it on a baking tray. Fork tines are used to poke holes in the dough. Bake at 350°F for about 10 minutes. Spread onion and apple mixture over dough. Sprinkle cheese. Top with the remaining sliced apples and thyme just before serving. Broil on high for about one minute, or until the apples start to wilt. Slice into squares and then serve.
You can substitute the refrigerated pizza dough with large baked pizza crusts (such as Boboli), by omitting baking crust.
