Nowadays, most people know that “going green”This doesn’t necessarily mean that you eat more vegetables or take a trip to Ireland. Rather, you are driving a Prius rather than an SUV. You’re recycling cans and bottles rather than throwing them away. Or you’re helping the loggerhead turtles, who are at the brink of extinction.

There are many ways you can go green. They don’t stop at home.

Travel industry now offers ecotourists a new way to travel the world. The industry now calls ecotourists “ecotourists” and it’s not like their camera-toting counterparts from a few decades ago. “Leave nothing but footprints and take nothing but memories.”

These tips can help you care for the planet more gently and sustainably if your goal is to be environmentally conscious.

Skip the rental. To reduce the amount of pollution, you can use hotel buses, subways and busses instead of renting a vehicle.

– Do your research. Plenty of businesses are now on board with protecting the environment by recycling and reusing everything from auto glass (one Wisconsin B&B installed a blue tile floor using this method) to stained tablecloths. These are the establishments you should support with your travel dollars.

Respect the environment. You can leave a smaller footprint wherever you travel, on land or sea. Oceana, an environmental advocacy organization, states that while most people consider themselves culturally and environmentally sensitive when they travel, certain activities can still be harmful for creatures who call the ocean home.

Take this as an example: Only one of the seven species worldwide of sea turtles calls America home. However, the number of aquatic reptiles is rapidly decreasing due to environmental problems posed by humans in the last decade. Sea turtle populations are threatened by many human activities, such as pollution and vehicles that drive on nesting areas, or the destruction of large numbers of species due to commercial fishing.

Do some research. You can help with environmental efforts. Certain animals and plants like the sea turtle are in danger of disappearing. Ask for help by looking for organizations like Oceana.
