Many Americans spend the holidays contemplating their New Year’s resolutions. It doesn’t matter if you are looking to improve your self-esteem, quit a bad habit, or lose weight; a resolution can have a significant impact on the year ahead. Vehicle maintenance is often overlooked by many. It helps to protect their families, the planet, and their largest investment, their vehicles. Firestone Complete Auto Care offers these tips to help you get started in the new year.
Oil should be changed according to the owner’s manual. This is usually every 3 months or 3,000 miles. Extended driving without changing the oil can lead to engine damage.
– Make sure your vehicle is properly topped off with fluids. Follow the instructions in your owner’s manual. Add enough fluid to replenish the indicator’s level if they are low. “full”Never overfill.
At least once a month, use a gauge to check the tire pressure when the tires have been cold. Find the recommended tire pressure on your driver’s side door jamb, fuel filler lid and glove box lid. Also, consult your owner’s manual. This is the “Max Press”Number, located on the sidewall, should only ever be used if it’s the recommended pressure. You can lose 1 pound of pressure per sq inch (psi) each month, and for every 10 degrees temperature drop. It is therefore important to monitor your tire pressure frequently.
Rotate your tires according the maintenance guide for your vehicle – every 5,000 miles. Rotating your tires regularly will help reduce wear and extend the life of your tires.
Simple resolutions for the New Year to keep your vehicle in good condition can make a big difference over the years. Keep it up!
