Motorsport enthusiasts all over the world are putting their cars in the wash, detailing their favourite rides, and taking on the driving gloves. Now it’s time to get out on the road.

It’s not only warm-weather vehicles that are hitting the open roads this year. The 2008 Can-Am Spyder roadster is the latest craze among moto and auto enthusiasts. It looks like a convertible sports car combined with a motorcycle. It boasts a unique Y geometry, with one wheel in the rear and two in the front.

Bombardier Recreational Products, the manufacturer of Sea-Doo watercrafts, Ski-Doo snowmobiles and Can-Am ATVs, introduced the Spyder roadster back in 2007. The all-new SE-5 transmission option was introduced this year. This allows even more people to enjoy the freedom of the open road.

Spyder’s SE-5 Transmission is the most recent feature for riding enthusiasts. This transmission caters for those who want a clutchless technology with “get on and go”The SE-5 offers conveniences that are not available on traditional motorcycles. The SE-5 has an index finger push-button switcher. This new method allows you to ride on the unpaved roads or cruise through busy cities. The SE-5 can also downshift if you forget.

Marc Lacroix is Spyder’s marketing director. He has been involved with the concept from its prototype stage. “The Spyder SE-5 offers advanced technology with ease of use and performance similar to what you find in today’s top sports cars,” says Lacroix.

The Spyder Roadster is available in 35 U.S. state and five Canadian provinces. The vehicle-stability package includes antilock brakes, stability control, and rollover mitigation. It is powered by a Rotax V-Twin 998cc Rotax engine. It accelerates from zero-60 mph in 4.5 seconds. The top speed is 110 mph.
