()There are many things you can worry about as a parent when it comes your children. Teenagers can be even more anxious, especially if they learn to drive.
According to data from National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents are the number one killer of teenagers in the United States.
Michelin and Emmitt Smith, football legend, have teamed up to raise awareness about safety for teens. “Coaching Your Teen Driver.”
“As parents, we play a critical role in coaching our teens to be safe drivers,”Smith stated this in a statement to announce the campaign during National Teen Driver Safety Week.
“Keeping a cool head on the road starts with a strategy and a plan -; that’s where Michelin’s resources for coaching your teen driver can help.”
A handbook, which can be downloaded for free, is included in the campaign. It includes practical road safety advice and tips for trainees and coaches. “offensive”And “defensive”Driving is a skill you can master with your teen driver.
Offense: The offensive driving plays in the handbook are intended to increase confidence and safety on the roads. These offensive plays include changing mirrors to ensure maximum visibility, changing lanes, passing other vehicles, and merging safely onto the highways with confidence.
Defense: Safe driving is essential. The handbook provides key defensive driving tips, including how you can manage tailgaters and drive safely around large trucks. It also explains how to maintain safe distance from them.”
The handbook also emphasizes critical tips for coaches -; such as knowing when to call a “Time out” and pull over when stress levels rise, and the importance of conducting a “Post-game analysis” with your teen after the driving lesson to review what went well and where they can still improve.
In addition, a section on basic vehicle and tire maintenance includes information that teens should know to stay safe on the road, but that often are not taught in drivers’ education classes.
“Even simple tips, such as how to maintain your tires, can make a difference in stopping distance. This could be the difference between life or death.” Scott Clark, chief operating officer for Michelin North America says in the statement.
