“Parents aren’t the only ones who need to understand that going back to school is a time-consuming process — everyone in the family should understand the commitment as well,”Savitri Dixon-Saxon Ph.D. LPC, NCC is associate dean of Walden University’s School of Counseling and Social Service. Walden University offers over 60 online bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degree programs.

These are five tips by Dr. Dixon-Saxon to achieve balance

* Choose a focus or specialization that you truly care about. If you are not passionate about your chosen field of study, the juggling act can be more difficult. You should choose a subject that you are passionate about.

* Set aside time for your studies. For assignments and studying, set specific times. It takes discipline and time management. However, if you have a routine in place, you can keep on track.

* Find a place to do your studies. It is easy to get distracted. Find a quiet area to study, away from distractions and noise.

* Ask for help. To make the term a success, establish connections with fellow classmates and faculty members early in the semester.

* Renew your energy. Make time to take care of yourself. To recharge your batteries, spend time with family and friends.
