Since almost a decade, educators have made a major shift in encouraging kids to be interested in STEM careers.
The fact is that 4-H is America’s largest youth development organization (it has been around almost 115 years), and HughesNet, America’s leading satellite Internet service provider, have teamed up to create 4-H Grown. This interactive campaign invites approximately 25 million 4-H alumni to direct sponsorship funding to their states by checking in at www.4-h.org/4hgrown/Voting to make science more accessible to youth in their local communities by tagging and taggin’ friends and casting votes
Through 4-H GrownThe two organizations aim to provide STEM learning experiences for youth in the United States, as well as small communities that may not have the resources to do so.
“In our first year of partnership, National 4-H Council and HughesNet helped thousands of young people experience the excitement of STEM, [and] I am thrilled that our new 2015 program will engage even more young people and expand our reach to 4-H alumni to show STEM can be rewarding and fun,”Jennifer Sirangelo, President and CEO, National 4-H Council
A $10,000 grant is available from the partnership. “Innovation Incubator”Science Sponsorship for the state with the highest number of votes. This sponsorship is new and requires that youth from across the country design innovative science solutions for real community problems. Each state can compete for a sponsorship in science. Two young innovators will also be selected to go on an all-expense paid trip to the 4-H National Youth Science Day in Washington, D.C. where they will take part in the largest youth-led science experiment in the world.
“Exposing thousands of children to the excitement of STEM is priceless,” says Mike Cook, senior vice president, Hughes North America Division. “We’re thrilled to continue our work with 4-H to make a difference in kids’ lives.”
