Congratulations to all the soon-to-be brides. Your wedding is just months away. Now, your jewelry collection — a mere watch? Your jewelry collection could increase as high as 50%.
It’s time for you to think about the type of wedding band that you would like.
Wedding bandsIn recent years, they have been the norm for men — 97 percent in The Knot Market Intelligence’s groom survey “2011 Engagement & Jewelry Study”You chose one, so even if there are doubts, your bride can probably clarify. The only thing that matters is the type of band that suits you best.
CNNMoney.com explains that there are two camps to this story: those who “don’t want to compromise”When it comes to quality, platinum bands and those who cannot afford the best will be satisfied with alternatives metal bands. Michael O’Connor, a jewelry expert, points out that this doesn’t give the complete picture.
“It’s true that platinum is so rare — 30 times more so than gold — that if all the world’s supply were melted and poured into an Olympic-size pool, it would barely reach your ankles,”O’Connor. “But men’s platinum bands start at $500.”
It turns out that this cost is very comparable to those of the most widely used alternative metals, titanium or tungsten carbide. They are best known for their use in the production of fighter jets. Cool, right? They are indeed lightweight, which means they lack the weight and heft of platinum.
“Most men prefer something that feels masculine on their finger,”O’Connor.
Other facts should also be considered. If scratched or damaged, titanium and tungsten jewelry will require special reconditioning. They cannot be resized. Rhodium replating will be required to restore the white color of white gold, which is more popular than white gold. Platinum, like all precious metals, can scratch but is only displaced on the ring’s surface. This means that very little metal is lost during wear. It is the most durable family heirloom and will last generations.
Still confused? Next, ask yourself: How committed are your future wives to you?
If we believe the answer, then platinum has been a symbol of enduring love since it doesn’t fade or change its color. “That’s the kicker for a lot of couples,”O’Connor.
