It doesn’t mean you have to compromise your style in order to achieve a beautiful, green look for your home. To make your living space more environmentally-friendly and efficient, you can follow these five easy design tips from the 2009 HGTV Eco Home in Port St. Lucie. Linda Woodrum, HGTV Green Home designer, has some great ideas that can help you make your green home look more appealing.

1. Your Welcome Home. You can make your home a welcoming place by making your foyer stand out from the rest of your house with some color. You can use a pattern, texture, or fabric as an inspiration and then recreate it on the wall using low-VOC paints, painter’s tape, and low-VOC paints. It’s possible to get a lot for very little.

2. Reduce, reuse, recycle. Unique pieces add depth and interest to a room. Green decorating is all about antiques, repurposed objects and salvage materials. For inspiration, take a look at the 2009 HGTV Green Home.

3. Your master bedroom should reflect your mood. Capture all that’s good about a place or location through your choice of color and décor, but keep it clean and natural with organic and recycled materials. The HGTV Green House master bedroom has a recycled glass tile floor and the bedroom wall color is a retro-South Florida look. However, it feels like a spa with a clean, natural feeling.

4. Use color. A calm and cozy retreat can be created by using one color in a room. The HGTVGreen Home sitting room carpet and walls have the same inviting color. This look can be recreated with low-VOC paint or environmentally friendly carpet. It is a great example of how green living can also mean big style.

5. High traffic areas should be covered with durable materials. Front and back entrances can be subject to heavy wear. It is possible to make your living spaces stand out by using beautiful ceramic tile. However, tile is easy to clean and is sustainable.
