No matter where you live, the outdoors is something that all Americans enjoy. We can grow herbs on our back porches or browse the local farmer’s market.
Why not go one step further? Take action to make your community greener. The creation of an outdoor oasis can help preserve green space, beautify neighborhoods, and bring people together through a shared cause.
You can do it through The Pepsi Refresh ProjectThe, which relies on the input of many people all over the country, awards grants for projects that benefit the community. Pepsi has a challenge for America this month: “How can you upgrade your hometown with a new community garden?”Go to www.refresheverything.comYou can give Pepsi a best answer or browse through hundreds of entries to vote for your favourite ideas. This fundraising campaign has seen more than 20 million dollars awarded to community-supportive ideas.
Take Central Elementary Gardens. It was established by Christy Cuthbert, a teacher. With the $25,000 Pepsi Refresh Project grant, she created an outdoor learning center for her school and a garden. The garden allows students to not only work in it but also learn how to manage and promote a local farmers market. Brandi Lynn Greig, a Colorado resident started Brigit’s Bounty. Her $25,000 grant was used to fund fencing, seeds and trees as well as educational programming. The community garden provides fresh vegetables each month to more than 200 families in the area.
You can also join a local community garden or farm. You can help in many ways, including planting and managing sales.
Every action has a major impact on communities. You can vote for your favorite ideas or take your own action. Pepsi will continue to challenge Americans, even as the summer months begin to wind down and we go back to school, with the next question. “How would you make learning fun?”No matter what season it is, ideas can inspire change in communities. The Pepsi Refresh Project encourages that.
