When it comes home decor, lighting is as important as color. Good lighting creates a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere that allows residents to complete their tasks with no strain on their eyes.

You will need multiple types of lighting when lighting a room. General lighting (or overall illumination) and task lighting (which helps with tasks such as reading or cooking, will be required. Accent lighting can also be used to illuminate shelves, paintings, or other areas of visual interest by homeowners. Homes will look more appealing if they have all three types.

These tips are provided by the American Lighting Association for Americans who want to improve their lighting in different areas of their homes:

Lighting is key to creating an inviting living space. A recessed downlight placed above the fireplace mantel can be used to create a focal point. Stone and brick surfaces will appear more intricate with the help of the light. Floorlamps can be placed behind armchairs to provide illumination for reading and other activities. Low-voltage, tungsten halogen picture lamps that shine white light directly onto the painting can be used to highlight it.

– Brighten up your kitchen. Although a large ceiling light can provide sufficient general lighting, it may not allow you to see into your cabinets or the stove range. You can add supplemental lighting to specific areas. Track lights placed above the stove and sink will allow you to see when your onions have browned and when the pots are clean.

– Make the dining room feel elegant. A chandelier can be placed above the dining table to add light and highlight any centerpieces.

Light can be used to create a peaceful bedroom. You can use wall sconces such as fanlights, downlights, fanlights, and chandeliers to provide enough light for you get dressed. Next, add more lighting near your vanity, in your closet, and around your bathroom. Swing-arm wall lamps can be installed on either side your bed. The lamps will be sufficient light for reading, but won’t take up much space on the nightstand.
