A national awards program recognizes communities that have registered their projects.
Neighborhood Watch program leaders or block associations, schools churches youth groups, civic organisations, military installations and schools can help local police prevent crime and celebrate safe neighborhoods. Talk to your neighbors and consider what you can do for your family and community to prevent crime.
Start by:
Identifying crime-related concerns within your neighbors. Are there areas that residents feel less safe in? Recent home burglaries and auto thefts as well as crimes against children have made residents anxious.
Ask your local police agency to meet with you to discuss your concerns and suggestions for how to keep your community safe from crime.
– Making a plan. – Identify the tasks and assign the work. Some possible projects include recruiting or organizing new Neighborhood Watch members or promoting the local Crime-Reporting Tip Line.
– Asking for help. To promote your efforts and to get supplies and volunteers, you will likely need people with special abilities and people who have the necessary skills.
After the event/activity:
Ask for feedback. Thank your volunteers and partners for their help. Also, look at how it changed the residents’ perception of safety. Ask your neighbors to share their experience with safety.
