()– As the first month of 2019, is flying by, many are still trying to figure out their 2021 goals and resolutions. You’re a hero if you already have your goals. If you’re still hesitant to set new goals for your fitness after last year’s gym closings, it’s the right time to get back on track. There are many ways to improve your fitness in 2021, even if you don’t have access to a gym. Online classes are available that will help you get moving and in shape. Finding the right classes is key.
“When choosing an online fitness class, you should consider key factors that can make a difference in the results you get, how long you stick with a program, and, ultimately, your satisfaction,”Jaynie Bjornaraa is a PhD., MPH., PT and AVP of Digital Fitness Solutions at the Silver&Fit®program. “The quality of the instructor, for example, can make a huge difference in keeping you motivated and ensuring that you’re doing proper moves that won’t result in injuries.”
Dr. Bjornaraa gave five tips when selecting an online exercise class.
1. 1.Find a class that suits your needs, goals, and/or health.. It’s frustrating to try to follow a fitness instructor whose moves are too fast or too difficult. Start classes at a lower intensity if you are just starting out. Intermediate level classes can be added as your fitness improves. Intermediate classes are best for people who have a high level of fitness. For older adults, it is important to find instructors who can help you with your particular needs. This includes maintaining and building muscle, improving flexibility, and increasing balance.
2. Be sure to check that the instructor has the appropriate qualifications. You can find thousands of instructors on social media, and many will teach classes. However, the wrong instructor could cause injury or make your experience a miserable one. Make sure to find instructors who have the right credentials and have experience with the types of workouts you like. Top instructors might have certifications such a Certified Group Fitness Instructor or Certified Personal Trainer, as well as Certified Exercise Experts for Aging Adults. These certifications can be earned through organizations like the Athletics and Fitness Association of America, American College of Sports Medicine or National Academy of Sports Medicine. 3. A program with many classes is a good choice.Movement is medicine. Variety can increase your fitness. Mixing up cardio classes can help you to be more flexible. For instance, try adding a strength training class, tai-chi for balance, and yoga for flexibility. You can also take classes that improve your agility and endurance as well as your feeling of empowerment and calm.
4. Find a class which motivates you.Research shows that half of those who begin a new exercise program after six months are sedentary. Your success is dependent on a motivating instructor. Encouragement and enthusiasm are two of the top motivating factors. “real”You can be yourself, enjoy challenging exercises, like music, and feel connected to others.
