()It was only a matter time before subscription boxes for clothing became practical and mainstream.
Numerous companies are now clamoring for a piece in the fashion subscription box industry. And almost all of them have some success.
But, almost no one has addressed the obvious need: a clothing company that caters to only tall and big men.
Nearly all studies published to date, even those by the Center for Disease Control, have shown that American men are growing in size every year. This is illustrated by the following: The average American man’s waistline is 40 inches. Yet, it’s uncommonly difficult to find fashionable men’s clothing that has a greater than 38 inch waistline.
This makes it hard to believe this market is still being served. The first company to market is a small Austin, TX-based business called Maximus Box. Clients have the option to choose from three subscription levels, starting at $69 per month. Maximus Box stylists then pick out and mail the clothing and accessories.
Wes Riddick, founder, says that his personal struggles in finding fashionable clothing for tall and large men led to him conducting research and tweet surveys. The results showed that half of plus-size men and women have difficulty shopping for the right size and the right fit.
According to research, they also want their clothes to be affordable. Online shopping rates are often too high in this category.
“I’m a big and tall man myself, but don’t want to be relegated to ill-fitting or unfashionable clothes,”Riddick states.
“Far too much of the big and tall clothing available was too boxy or had a lumberjack look that just doesn’t appeal to me. I figured I couldn’t be alone in this, so I created Maximus Box and offer fashion-forward clothing at low prices,”Riddick.
