Today, it’s rare and sometimes illegal for a dog to be let loose without a leash. Even large parks often have leash laws. Dog ownership is on the rise.

The American Pet Products Association estimates that there are more than 60 million households in the US with at least one dog. These dog owners are seeking out places that allow their dogs to run free and socialize with other people.

Spots can be let loose in off-leash areas like fenced-in parks.

The Association of Pet Dog Trainers states that a good dog park must have some basic features. Bags and trash cans to clean up after the dogs, fresh water and shade are the basics.

Dog parks should be separated from their exit and entry gates. This would allow everyone to move around with safety and ease. A dual-gate system will prevent dogs from escaping through open gates while another dog enters or leaves it.

These are the basic features, but there are many more fun options to keep your dog happy and safe.

Pilgrim Dog Park is located in Provincetown Massachusetts and has sculptures for dogs that are pet-friendly.
