Shaw’s Carpet Stain Center app offers easy-to-follow directions for removing some of the most notorious stains.
Red wine: Use a detergent solution (1/4 cup clear dishwashing soap, 1 cup warm water) and blot with a towel for three to five minute. To remove the stain, use a hydrogen/ammonia solution (1/4 cup hydrogen peroxide and 1/8 teaspoon household ammonia). Let it stand for up to three hours covered with a heavy sheet of plastic wrap. (Repeat as necessary). To remove the stain, you can use white vinegar to neutralize it. After that, rinse the area with water and a damp towel. Blot the area, and then use a pad of weighted white paper towels to finish.
Gum: Remove or clean up spillages. Ice cubes can be frozen. Once hardened, break them with a blunt object such as a spoon. Make sure to vacuum chips before they start melting.
Peanut Butter: Use a scraper or a blotter to clean up any spillage. Use a damp towel to rub the detergent solution. Use a damp towel to apply water. Blot the towel and then use a towel pad to support it.
