Is it often that you have great ideas but then put them on the back burner? Worse yet, how often do people take an idea like yours and turn it into a successful business? You have to stop kicking your self and make that million-dollar idea a reality.

Most entrepreneurs find success following similar paths. Sara Blakely, entrepreneur, founder of multi-million-dollar company Spanx, spoke about her secrets to success in an interview with SUCCESS magazine, a leading magazine for established entrepreneurs and budding entrepreneurs. How do you make your next idea a million-dollar company? Blakely’s tips:

You can be different from the rest. “Whether it’s in the marketplace or in those first few seconds you meet somebody — whatever it is — if you don’t know how it has been done before, you’re almost guaranteed to do it differently,”Blakely.

It is important to make a first impression. “If you make someone laugh or smile in the first five to 10 seconds, you might get another 10 seconds,”She says.

Be persistent. Be persistent in proving your product or idea to potential buyers and manufacturers. They will believe if you are enthusiastic about your idea.

Visualize your goal. “Take a mental snapshot of what success looks like for you,”She says. This vision of success will guide you through difficult times.

Take note of opportunities. “There are a million ways to improve everything around us,”Blakely. One improvement can make your idea a million dollars.

Hire your weakness. Hire well-qualified people to fill in the gaps.
