Do you have an original recipe for chicken? It’s time for you to start cooking. You could be eligible for $50,000 in grand prize at the 48th National Chicken Cooking Contest.

You can make any type of recipe, from the traditional to the internationally inspired. Last year’s winner? “Thai-Inspired Stuffed Chicken Breast and Slaw,”All entries must be created by you, and not published previously in substantially the same format.

After the closing of entries, Aug. 31, 2008, one winner will be chosen from each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia. The winners will receive $100 and be judged at a regional level. Nine regional winners each will be awarded $1,000. They will then compete in person at National Cook-Off, May 2, 2009 in San Antonio (Texas) for the $50,000 grand prize as well as a $10,000 judge’s prize.

“This is the first time we have had a regional level of competition,” said Nancy Tringali Piho, contest director. “This allows more people to win prizes throughout the competition. In fact, a total of $74,100 will be awarded.”
