One company’s innovativeness and a demonstration of green tech can make trash into fuel.

“We put plastic in one end, and liquid fuel comes out the other,”John Bordynuik was the chief technology officer and founder of the company. Plastic2OilJBI, Inc. has a division called, which transforms unsorted, unswashed plastic into ultra-clean fuels, that don’t require refinement.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), America generates 31,000,000 tons of plastic waste each year. 92% of that plastic is either dumped into landfills or incinerated, neither of which are eco-friendly. This, combined with America’s continuing dependence on foreign oil makes Plastic2Oil (P2O), downright magical.

It could be.

JBI began developing their P2O process in 2009 After numerous tests, analysts confirmed that the procedure was repeatable and the primary plant in Niagara Falls, N.Y., was set up.

Today, an average 86 percent of the plastic that goes to the processors can be converted into fuel. JBI has transformed over 2 million pounds plastic into ultra-low sulfur fuels, including No. 2 Diesel, No. 6 Fuel and Naphtha are used in petroleum engineering. These fuels did not need to be refined further. Due to the increasing awareness of environmental issues, many companies now transport truckloads full of used plastics to JBI. Participating companies can thus save money on otherwise costly waste disposal and reduce the amount of plastic found in landfills.

Companies that provide raw materials can also help create a range of refined fuel products.

JBI can help you if your company is sending significant amounts of plastic waste to landfills. [email protected]
