Summer brings longer days, more sunshine and premiere episodes of popular TV shows. Some TV viewers are sweating because of the heat: Do you tune in or do you go?

Increasingly, viewers are able to enjoy their favorite shows on their own time thanks to digital video recorders.

Forrester Research is an independent technology research company that estimates that over 13 million households already have DVRs. More than half of those homes will acquire the technology in the next four-years.

DVRs enable people to take control over their television viewing experience. They allow them to record, pause, fast forward, and rewind commercials. DVR technology also allows viewers to record multiple shows simultaneously. DISH Network offers multi-room DVRs, which can record programming on up to two TVs using one satellite receiver.

A majority of DVRs have ample storage, which is a great feature for a season filled with new shows or old episodes. DISH Network’s highest-end model records up to 200 hours in standard-definition programming. It can also record up 30 hours of high definition programming or a combination of both.

A lot of DVRs have an electronic program guide and extensive search capabilities. This makes it easy to navigate all the programming. There’s never been more entertainment, indoors or outdoors, or some combination of both.
