If you’re working late, it could soon lead to burnout at work.

A recent survey by the Better Sleep Council found that eight out of ten Americans have at least one side effect related to work related to sleep deprivation.

The most common complaint from respondents was that they were unable to get enough sleep.

“A perception today is that you can accomplish more if you spend less time sleeping, but limited sleep can affect every aspect of your life,”Dr. Bert Jacobson is the Better Sleep Council spokesperson and the author of a new Oklahoma State University study about mattresses and quality of sleep, which was published in The Journal of Chiropractic Medicine. “In fact, sleep deprivation impacts your level of alertness, your productivity and your ability to interact with colleagues and customers on the job.”

27% of Americans sleep less than the recommended eight hours each night. This has a negative impact on their health and the economy. U.S. companies lose almost $150 billion each year due to poor sleep quality and absenteeism.

Alarmingly, only 13% of Americans will make a commitment to get better sleep so they can be more productive at work. However, many people don’t realize the simple fact that buying a new mattress can improve your sleep quality.

Jacobson’s study found that sleep quality directly correlates with the mattress quality.

The Better Sleep Council advises that consumers evaluate their mattress every five- to seven years to ensure a good night of sleep.

These tips are from the Better Sleep Council and will help you live a happier, more productive, and healthier life.

* Stick to a sleep schedule. You can make sleep your priority by making sure you get eight hours sleep each night. Also, keep the schedule consistent even on weekends.

* Kick the caffeine habit. Research shows that caffeine interferes in getting a good nights sleep.

* Invest in rest. One-third of your time is spent in bed. When you need to purchase a mattress, make sure you get the best quality and comfort.
