Both presidential candidates oppose energy plans. John McCain, the Republican nominee for president, supports offshore drilling. Barack Obama, the Democrat for president, advocates new technologies. However, new sources of oil can’t last forever and new technologies take many years to create and implement. Conservation is the key to solving the energy crisis.

The U.S. consumes more fossil fuels per capita than it needs. The U.S. contributed 21 percent to climate change in 2005. The United States also has a high consumption of natural resources. Americans consume five times as many fossil fuels per person than the global average. It is impossible to continue such a high level of consumption.

Soon, the country will have to transition to renewable energy sources such as solar, water, and wind energy. Scientists have yet to discover how renewables can be used alone. Cloud coverage blocks solar batteries’ ability to create energy. Wind gusts are also limited by the cloud. Hydroelectric technology of today creates lakes out of rivers and causes more harm than good.

Americans must conserve fossil fuels to ensure that renewable energy can meet their energy needs. Seeing this, some companies are developing technologies to bridge the gap between renewables and fossil fuels.

Power of the Company

Dream Ventures, Inc.www.powerofthedream.comThe company, which is based in California, recently acquired a green technology that allows water to mix with gasoline. This mixture will be 40% water and can then be used for internal combustion engines.

“This technology has the potential to revolutionize transportation by greatly reducing gasoline consumption and emissions,”Daniel Kun, vice president of Power of the Dream. “Given the fact our company already manages a number of promising and market-ready ‘green’ technologies, this green-tech addition was a natural and prudent choice.”
