You probably wear contact lenses. Your eye care professional will discuss routine eye exams, contact lenses comfort, and ordering replacement lenses. When was the last time that you had a conversation about contact lens care?
Wakefield Research conducted a survey sponsored by Alcon and found that the majority of contact lens wearers have not had a conversation with their doctor about lens care in three years.
“Many contact lens wearers incorrectly assume their current contact lens care routine works fine. Unfortunately, many wearers don’t discuss contact lens care during each appointment, which means they may unintentionally practice poor habits that could lead to discomfort, blurred vision or even infection,”Dr. Mile Brujic is an optometrist from Bowling Green, Ohio.
These are questions Dr. Brujic encourages contacts wearers to ask at their appointments.
1. Which type of lens solution works best for me?
The survey revealed that 60 percent of contacts lens wearers believe all lens care solutions work the same. Lens care solutions come in different formulations and can be used for cleaning, rinsing or disinfecting. You can increase your chances to find the right solution by asking your eye specialist for recommendations.
2. 2. Should I switch lens care brands?
Before changing your lens care product brand, consult your eye doctor. Discuss any concerns you may have about your lenses care solution with your eye doctor during your regular eye visits.
3. Do I properly clean my lenses and case?
If you’re not practicing good lens hygiene, your eye doctor can help you determine if you should. Poor habits, such as using solution more than prescribed or wearing lenses for longer periods of time, can be identified by your eye care professional.
4. How often should my lens case be cleaned?
For cleaning and storage of your contact lens case, please refer to the instructions. When you remove contact lenses from the lens case, allow it to dry completely. Follow the instructions of your product manufacturer to replace your contact lenses storage case.
5. 5. When do I need to replace my contact lenses
Follow your eye care professional’s recommended contact lens replacement schedule. Constantly wearing contact lenses for more than prescribed by your eye care professional or the product instructions can result in discomfort and complications.
