Your child should be aware of the fact that online and offline, the fundamentals of what you say, how you say it and why, are the same. Here are some ways to talk about Internet safety with your family.
Create an honest, open environment. Children look up to their parents for guidance. It is possible that you don’t have all the answers. Being honest about this can help you a lot.
Start conversations. Don’t wait until your kids feel comfortable to approach you. Everyday opportunities exist to discuss online with your children.
Your values should be communicated. Your values should be communicated clearly online. Clear communication can help you and your children make more informed decisions in tricky situations.
Be patient. Children need to hear the same information over and over again in small doses to get it to sink into their brains. It will pay off long-term if you are patient and persistent with your kids.
