Tweens are concerned about the effects of global warming and pollution more than adults. Many of these young people are eager to make positive changes in their schools, families, and communities.
According to a recent Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) and Staples Foundation for Learning (SFFL) survey of more than 1,200 youths, ages 11-13, 92 percent of tweens said they are “very concerned”Oder “somewhat concerned”Concerning the environment. Nearly half of those who recycle or reuse their food containers would do so, while 40% would cut back on television and play less video games in order to save energy.
One example, Florida’s Edgewater Boys & Girls Club Torch Club, was named a winner of the “Be Great. Be Green”National Project Award for Club’s efforts in educating members about sustainability and environmental stewardship. The BGCA and SFFL award the national award to encourage youth, educators, and parents to act on environmental issues.

BGCA encourages parents, educators, and children, to do their part in reducing the environmental impact of school and office supplies.
