Off-road driving along scenic and challenging trails can be fun. But it’s totally different from driving down the road. Here are some tips to help you stay safe while not getting stuck.
Soft obstacles: To improve your traction when you are going to tackle sand or snow, it is a good idea to deflate your tires. This will reduce your tire footprint and increase your traction. You can maintain momentum. If your wheels begin to spin in the sand, snow, or sand, you should ease off the accelerator. To clear mud from your tires, keep your wheels turning.
–Hard obstacles: Avoid large rocks, logs, or other obstructions when off-roading. Make sure one tire touches the obstacle while the rest remain on flat ground. Place one tire on the obstacle. Then, drive slowly over it to protect the underside.
Hill: Have an escape plan for any mishaps. To increase your safety on hills, you can approach them straight on to get maximum traction to all four tires. You can comfortably ascend the hill by using the highest gear.
Pearse umlauf, president and CEO at Jeep Jamboree, says that the right vehicle and tires can make off-roading an unforgettable experience. “Jeep Jamborees are off-road adventure weekends that bring down-to-earth people to enjoy their Jeep 4x4s in the outdoors,”Umlauf coordinates operations to ensure safe use and maintenance on off-road vehicle trails throughout the U.S. as well as worldwide.
He mentioned that BFGoodrich Tires would be the official tire for Jeep Jamboree 2017.
Del Albright, Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Famer and BFGoodrich Performance Team Expert has 50 years of experience driving tires on trails. “The All-Terrain T/A KO2 tire is my tire of choice, with a rugged, durable design that makes it ideal for off-roaders who want to torture test their vehicles or just enjoy the backroads,”He said. Albright has been a long-standing advocate of conservation and preservation for trails for offroading. Albright saved one of his favourite trails, the Rubicon Trail at Lake Tahoe, California. However, erosion issues threatened the trail’s closure. Albright helped to lead a group volunteers to repair the problem spots and preserve it for off-roaders as well as other outdoor enthusiasts. Rausch Creek Off-Road Park, Pennsylvania, San Hallow State Park, Utah and the Hatfield-McCoy Trail, West Virginia are some of his favorites.
